Scythe Starter Kit

This is a great way to get started with scythe mowing. Includes everything you need: a snath, blade, peening anvil and hammer, honing whetstone, whetstone holder and a copy of our best Scything guide book. We offer this package together at a substantial savings compared with buying the individual products separately.

The metal snath is good for people between 5 and 6 feet tall, while folks over 6 feet may prefer the wooden snath OR choose to slightly bend the metal snath to achieve the correct the angle of the blade.

As for blade length, longer lengths will be more productive mowing delicate or shorter vegetation (such as a hay field), while shorter blades may be easier to work in tougher material (like goldenrod, for example). 

The "stone tip" blades reinforce and protect the leading edge of the blade from errant rocks, which many users appreciate. It does take away from the usable edge of the blade slightly.

SHW blades and snaths are made in Germany, the peening hammer and anvil are from Slovenia, and the stone is made in China. This kit may require some minor assembly.
