German Long-Blade Lawn Edger with Ash Handle

A clever tool for cutting clean, straight borders between lawns, garden beds, paths and other landscaped areas.

Most manual lawn edgers and spades cut only a few inches of edge at a time. This German edger uses an unusually long, right-angle steel head that lets you work along the edge in longer sections. The vertical blade cuts through turf and roots while the perpendicular portion of the head helps separate the material beside it. The result is a cleaner, more continuous edge with less of the uneven, scalloped appearance that can come from repeatedly stepping a narrow spade into the ground.

This tool was developed by SHW together with German landscape gardener Ralf Dammasch specifically to improve on conventional lawn edging tools. The long ash handle allows the tool to be guided from a comfortable standing position, and the approximately 2.2 lb. head weight gives the steel head enough substance to work through established turf without making the tool cumbersome. Very dry or compacted soil will naturally require more effort, but the sharpened cutting edges are designed to cut cleanly through normal lawn and garden soil.
