This is a convenient and economical European scythe for the occasional user. It folds up for portability and storage.

Includes a metal snath, locking bolt, 65cm scythe blade and adjustable handles. The length of the snath is 150cm.

New to scything? We recommend the starter kit.
This scythe does not include the sharpening and maintenance tools needed for regular use. If you are buying your first European scythe, consider our starter kit instead. It includes the scythe plus the basic tools and instructions needed to sharpen, maintain, and learn to use it properly.

    Gimmicky

    I'm still new to this, but I think the others that are also new should be sure to buy their own sharpening stone, honing stone, and peening kit. Apparently you need to sharpen the blade after you swing this blade every third cut. It just feels cheap, and I definitely shouldn't have been so impulsive. This was something I was looking forward to, and it was mostly a letdown.

    Thank you for taking the time to leave this review, and I’m sorry the scythe was a letdown. You are right that a European scythe requires a properly prepared edge, regular honing during use (usually every 5-10 minutes of continuous mowing), and occasional peening to re-form the edge and harden the steel. All of our scythes come peened from the factory but will require an initial honing to get them razor-sharp for mowing.

    We do offer the sharpening stone, holder, peening tools, and instructional book separately, and we also have a starter kit for first-time users that includes the basic maintenance equipment. Your review makes it clear that we should direct beginners to that starter kit more clearly instead of presenting the maintenance items as ordinary optional add-ons.
