SHW Black Forest German Shovel-Spade with 47-Inch Ash Handle

This German shovel-spade -- a familiar tool in American garden sheds -- combines the digging ability of a spade with the carrying capacity of a shovel. The tapered point enters firm and compacted soil much more readily than a square shovel, while the broad, dished blade holds soil as it is lifted from a planting hole or trench. It is a useful choice for planting trees and shrubs, transplanting, opening narrow trenches, breaking into difficult ground, and general digging where an ordinary shovel can feel too blunt.

The head is formed from a single piece of European-sourced special steel and precisely hardened. A wide foot step lets you apply your weight securely, while the long ash handle provides good reach and leverage for digging and prying. The nonslip grip sleeve gives your upper hand a firm hold without adding a bulky D-grip.
