Hoopoe Hoe Mattock with Oval Hoe Blade - 5.7lbs

Hoopoe Hoe Mattock with Oval Hoe Blade - 5.7lbs

This German hoopoe hoe combines an oval digging blade with a sharpened axe-like cutter, creating a powerful tool for clearing, planting, transplanting, and working ground obstructed by roots and stones.

The narrow, rounded point of the oval blade concentrates the force of the swing, helping it enter hard or stony soil with less resistance than a broad rectangular hoe. Its curved shape is particularly useful for opening planting holes, working around established plants, loosening compacted pockets of soil, and cutting into uneven ground. The cutter on the opposite side tackles thick roots, woody growth, vines, and other material that a conventional hoe cannot sever cleanly.

Compared with the broad-bladed hoopoe hoe, this version favors penetration and precision over the amount of soil moved with each stroke. Choose the oval blade for difficult ground, forestry planting, transplanting, and concentrated digging. Choose the broad blade for trenching, clearing larger areas, and pulling more loosened soil.

The 1,800 gram head carries substantial momentum through both digging and chopping strokes. It is forged in one piece from European steel, KWF-tested for professional forestry use, and fitted to a 41-inch PEFC-certified ash handle.

Premium European Steel & Low-Maintenance Blade

SHW tools are made from carefully sourced European steel—renowned for its purity and reliability. The forging process creates a dense, uniform grain structure that boosts overall strength and makes the blade less prone to cracking or warping.

Why European Steel Matters: High-grade alloys ensure consistent heat treatment, resulting in a tough yet flexible blade that retains its edge even under heavy use.

Bevel-Wearing Edge: Each hoe or blade is engineered with a precise bevel shape, allowing the cutting edge to “refresh” itself as it wears. You’ll spend less time sharpening and more time enjoying your garden.

Durable Ash Handles—User-Replaceable for Life

Every SHW tool comes fitted with a premium-grade European ash handle, chosen for its ideal strength-to-weight ratio and natural shock absorption. Handles are kiln-dried, grain-oriented for stability, and fixed with a robust wedge system.

The forged steel head is backed by a lifetime warranty, and the handle is user-replaceable to extend its working life indefinitely.
